How to play our party games

Three games that need only printed cards and a host: one to get people talking, one for teams, and one that makes guests mingle.

Make party game cards

Would you rather

  1. Read a card aloud: "Would you rather … or …?"
  2. Everyone picks one. At a big party, point to one side of the room for each answer and let people move.
  3. Ask one or two people why. That's where the laughs come from.
  4. Take turns reading cards. There's no winner; stop while it's still fun, after 10–15 cards.

Trivia quiz

  1. Split guests into teams of three to five and give each team a pen and paper.
  2. Read questions in rounds of ten. Teams write their answers without shouting them out.
  3. After each round, read the answers. Teams swap sheets to mark them, one point each.
  4. Keep a scoreboard. If the final is a tie, ask a number question and the closest answer wins.

Find the guest bingo

  1. Hand each guest a card and a pen as they arrive. Each square describes someone ("has met the bride's mum", "has travelled the furthest").
  2. Guests talk to each other and write a matching guest's name in each square. One name per square.
  3. The first to finish a line, or the card at a set time, wins.

Questions

Which game suits a small group?

Would you rather works with three people. Trivia needs at least two teams, and find the guest needs a room where people don't all know each other.

How long does each game take?

Would you rather: as long as you like. Trivia: about 10 minutes per round of ten. Find the guest: 15–20 minutes while people arrive.
